Cultural Competency Seminar

President's Office

Dear Stony Brook University Faculty and Staff,

We are pleased to present Stony Brook University’s first all-campus Cultural Competency Seminar on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 in the Island Federal Credit Union Arena.  This seminar was developed in response to requests from our students, staff and faculty and will focus on implicit bias and issues and processes related to harassment and sexual misconduct.
This required seminar will strengthen and enhance the campus climate to ensure that all members of our community have the ability to thrive and achieve their individual goals. It will provide tools and practical advice for student and colleague interactions and will reinforce Stony Brook's commitment to the prevention and elimination of all forms of discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct.

Stony Brook non-clinical faculty and staff members will attend one of two sessions that day. Staff members will attend in the morning, from 9 am to 12 pm, and faculty will attend in the afternoon, from 1:30 to 4:30 pm.
University faculty and staff will be among the presenters at the seminar, which will be facilitated by Vernon Wall, an international social justice educator, lecturer and consultant.

Please register for the seminar by October 1st. More details about the seminar can be found at the Chief Diversity Officer website.  Please email ocdo@stonybrook.edu should you have any questions about the day.

Sincerely,

Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D.
President
