The Department of Medicine is very pleased to announce that Stony Brook Medicine’s Diabetes Education Program has just received reaccreditation from the American Diabetes Association® Education Recognition Program through 2023.
Why is recognition so important? As the American Diabetes Association® explains, “We lead the fight against the deadly consequences of diabetes and fight for those affected by diabetes.”
- We fund research to prevent, cure and manage diabetes.
- We deliver services to hundreds of communities.
- We provide objective and credible information.
- We give voice to those denied their rights because of diabetes.
Dr. Joshua D. Miller, M.D., M.P.H., Assistant Dean for Clinical Integration, Medical Director of Diabetes Care, and Assistant Professor of Medicine states, “As one of Long Island’s oldest and most successful programs, our multidisciplinary team of educators provides world-class individual and group counseling to countless patients with diabetes and their families. We help patients to achieve their goals in managing diabetes and our outcomes are among the best in the country.
“I am grateful to Patty Skala, RN, CDE, BC-ADM, for taking the lead in this recertification and to our entire team of educators (Mary Rieff, Gabi Scharpf, Elissa Feldman, Danielle Kelly and Bryan Schrage) for the exceptional care and dedication they provide to our community.”
In addition, in June of this year, Stony Brook Medicine’s Diabetes Education Program also received the 2019 HANYs Pinnacle Award, which recognizes organizations that are playing a leading role in promoting improvements in healthcare delivery in New York State.
Congratulations Dr. Miller and your entire team on receiving reaccreditation with the American Diabetes Association® through 2023!
