Stony Brook Medicine sees the highest number of hospitalized Babesia cases annually in New York State. Our researchers continue to discover new biomarkers on this tick-borne disease that impacts mainly people in the northeast region of the United States.
Our infectious disease fellow Dr. Michael Lum (and former Chief Resident, Stony Brook Internal Medicine Residency Program) as first author has just published this important paper on Babesia and procalcitonin. Co-authors also include Dr. Caitlin Gauvin (current Chief Resident, Stony Brook Internal Medicine Residency Program.)
