The Department of Medicine had fantastic representation at the 2023 Renaissance School of Medicine Faculty Awards & Recognition Ceremony on November 30th. Congratulations to this year’s DOM winners and to all of the faculty who received recognitions.

The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce the promotion of Susan Lee, M.D., FACP, Division of General, Geriatric and Hospital Medicine to Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Renaissance School of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

American Society of Nephrology's (ASN) Kidney Week is the world's premier nephrology meeting. "Kidney Week provides participants exciting and challenging opportunities to exchange knowledge, learn the latest scientific and medical advances, and listen to engaging and provocative discussions with leading experts in the field." (asn-online.org) This year's annual event takes place from November 1-5 in Philadelphia, PA.

The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce that a collaborative grant with the Stony Brook University Department of Biomedical Engineering and Yale School of Medicine was recently awarded by The Office of Sponsored Programs.

The Renaissance School of Medicine has selected the winners of the 2023 Faculty Awards. Every year, the RSOM recognizes faculty members who are nominated for their outstanding work in the areas of research, teaching, clinical service, mentoring and humanism—all of which are vital facets that encompass the mission of the School of Medicine.

American College of Rheumatology (ACR) and the Association of Rheumatology Professionals (ARP) Membership and Awards Committee has written: narrowing down a large applicant pool, especially when it is composed of so many highly qualified candidates. Your outstanding contributions to the field, however, stood out most to the committee. 

The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce that Sian Piret, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, recently received Notice of Award for her NIH R01 grant: Role of branched-chain amino acid catabolism in the proximal tubule.

The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce that Karam Aboudehen, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, has received Notice of Award for his PKD (Polycystic Kidney Foundation) grant: Deciphering the role of the long noncoding RNA Pvt1 in ADPKD.

The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce that Zhongju Lu, M.D., Ph.D., FACP, division of General, Geriatric and Hospital Medicine at Stony Brook Medicine has been selected as the recipient of 2023 Chapter Excellence Award in Research.

The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce that Shipra Agrawal, PhD, Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, has received Notice of Award for her NIH R01 grant: Mechanisms and Selective Modulation of PPARy for the Treatment of Podocytopathies.

The Department of Medicine is thrilled to announce that once again Stony Brook Primary Care in East Setauket and Stony Brook Internists, Commack office, have achieved NCQA recognition for PCMH evaluation in 2023.

The Department of Medicine is thrilled to announce that Susan Lane, M.D., FACP, Internal Medicine Residency Program Director, Professor of Medicine, and Vice Chair of Education in the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, has been elected to serve as Vice Chair of the AAIM Board of Directors for FY 2024.
 

The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce the promotion of Patricia Ng, M.D., FACP, to Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine in the Renaissance School of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Dr. Ng is a prominent faculty member in the Division of General, Geriatrics and Hospital Medicine and is an outpatient General Internist at the Stony Brook Primary Care Center. She currently serves as the Primary Care Track Director and Associate Program Director of Stony Brook’s Internal Medicine Residency Program.

The Department of Medicine is honored to announce that Bettina Fries, MD, FIDSA, FACP, Professor of Medicine and Microbiology and Immunology, and Chief, Division of Infectious Diseases, has been elected to a lifetime fellows honor in the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Section of Medical Sciences.

The Department of Medicine is extremely proud to announce that Dr. Sandeep K. Mallipattu, Professor and Chief, Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, has been elected to membership in the prestigious American Society For Clinical Investigation (ASCI).

The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce that Susan W. Lane, MD, FACP, Stony Brook Medicine, has been elected an At-Large Member of the AΩA Board of Directors.

Dr. Lane is currently a Professor of Medicine, Internal Medicine Residency Director and Vice Chair of Education in the Department of Medicine in the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University.

The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce that the Stony Brook cardio-oncology program is the first in our region to be awarded an IC-OS Gold Medal, and the program is recognized as an IC-OS Center of Excellence by the International Cardio-Oncology Society.
