Appointment of Dr. Silvana Obici, Medical Director of the Diabetes Services at Stony Brook Medicine

We are delighted to announce that Silvana Obici, M.D., Chief, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Professor of Medicine, has been appointed Medical Director of the Diabetes Services at Stony Brook Medicine, after serving as Interim Medical Director since November 2022.

Stony Brook Medicine’s Diabetes Program offers the most advanced and supportive care to Long Islanders living with diabetes. The program is proud to be Long Island’s longest running education program recognized by the American Diabetes Association. Their multidisciplinary team of diabetes education specialists has over 100 years of combined experience helping patients and their families to overcome the challenges of living with diabetes. 

Stony Brook’s team of board-certified endocrinologists, certified diabetes care and education specialists and clinical nutritionists work collaboratively to provide patient-centered education, clinical consultation and counseling to patients throughout their journey with diabetes. Their inpatient diabetes team supports patients during their stay, providing access to some of the most advanced and effective tools to address glycemic control during hospitalization, and coordinates transition of care to outpatient diabetes specialist upon discharge. The Diabetes Program’s  approach to diabetes patient care has garnered national recognition placing Stony Brook University Hospital among the top 10% of all diabetes programs nation-wide. (Stony Brook University Hospital was recognized as a Best Hospital for 2022-23 by U.S. News & World Report, ranking in the top 50 nationally for Diabetes and Endocrinology.)
