Why Stony Brook? bagels, pizza, and Dr. Lane. All a resident needs. I was initially skeptical but immediately bought into what Dr. Lane was selling. She has taken it upon herself to create an environment that truly fosters collegiality not just among the internal medicine residents but also among the other specialties. While it is still early, I have already heard personal testimony from several residents of just how valuable Dr. Lane has been. The administration at Stony Brook fiercely protects that culture and it shows. It is perhaps for this very reason that I have been blessed with some of the most genuine, down-to-earth, supportive co-residents from all classes. Residency is relatively standardized and you will get good training in many places - it's the people that make a program worth it.
