Each fellowship year consists of 13 four-week blocks, including 4 weeks of vacation time annually.
We welcome fellows with a background in pediatrics and those from emergency medicine, each having their dedicated track and milestones.
Pediatrics-Trained Fellows (3-year program):
First Year
- Pediatric ED: 5 blocks
- Research: 3 blocks
- Adult Emergency Medicine: 1 block
- Trauma: 1 block
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit: 1 block
- Orthopedics: 2 weeks
- Airway: 2 weeks
- Vacation: 4 weeks
During the first year, fellows will supervise pediatric, child psychiatry, and emergency medicine residents under the direct guidance of the PEM attending physician. They will develop procedural and teaching skills, join committees, and initiate their scholarly project as required by the American Board of Pediatrics.
Second Year
- Pediatric ED: 3.5 blocks
- Adult Emergency Medicine: 1 block
- Research: 4.5 blocks
- Child Abuse: 1 block
- Radiology: 2 weeks
- Ultrasound Rotation: 2 weeks
- Toxicology: 1 block
- Vacation: 4 weeks
In their second year, fellows will further refine teaching and clinical skills. They will continue supervising residents while also leading resuscitations, rounds, and performing procedures with direct attending supervision.
Third Year
- Pediatric ED: 3.5 blocks
- EMS: 2 weeks
- Research: 4.5 blocks
- Elective: 1.5 blocks
- Simulation: 2 weeks
- Vacation: 4 weeks
- Adult Emergency Medicine: 1 block
- Administrative: 2 weeks
During the third year, fellows will take on the role of an attending physician in Pediatric ED shifts. While an attending will be present for every shift, fellows will have the opportunity to manage patients and lead the team. The goal is to complete the scholarly research project and submit it for presentation at a national meeting
Emergency Medicine-Trained Fellows (2-year program)
Year 1
- PEM: 5.5 blocks
- Research: 1.5 weeks
- Pediatric Floor: 1 block
- Ambulatory: 1 block
- PICU: 1 block
- NICU: 1 block
- Child Abuse: 1 block
- Vacation: 4 weeks
During their first year, Emergency Medicine-trained fellows will supervise Pediatric, Emergency Medicine, and Child Psychiatry residents. They will refine their skills and knowledge through outpatient and inpatient Pediatric rotations. A research project will be initiated, with the goal of completing it over two years and submitting it to a national conference before graduation.
Year 2
- PEM: 7 blocks
- Research: 1 block
- Elective: 4 blocks
- Vacation: 1 block
In the second year, fellows will transition to the role of supervising attending physicians, leading the team in managing their own patients. An attending physician will always be present if needs arise. They will have their research project submitted.
