This Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship program is newly accredited by the ACGME and offers incoming fellows from both Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine residency programs, a challenging and robust training experience that will provide them with the skills necessary to become outstanding clinical and academic leaders in the field. The program will utilize the resources of the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University to provide the full range of experiences and opportunities needed for training in this exciting subspecialty. Graduates will have developed skills and competencies to manage medical and surgical emergencies in pediatric patients of varying age through a curriculum encompassing comprehensive goals, objectives, evaluation and feedback mechanisms.
The fellowship program is based at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital Emergency Department, located in a suburban area of eastern Long Island, within the New York City metropolitan area. It is the only ACS verified Level 1 pediatric trauma center in Suffolk County New York, and serves as the regional Burn Center. The pediatric emergency department team, led by 12 PEM specialists and supported by four pediatric clinicians, evaluates over 26,000 acutely ill and injured patients per year. In addition to patients who arrive directly, we receive pediatric patients requiring a higher level of care via ground or helicopter transport from our two network hospitals, Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital and Stony Brook Southhampton Hospital and eight other hospitals in Suffolk County.
