Stony Brook stood out to me not just because of a strong residency program on paper, but because it truly felt like a place where I can grow, both professionally and academically. The training is excellent and forward-thinking, but what really made me sure was the people, the faculty are amazing, always ready to mentor and shape how residents think and practice, not just teach. And of course, the residents in the program are wonderful to work with too. Every time I've interacted with them, I've been impressed by how supportive, sharp, and easy to work alongside they are. That kind of bond isn't something you can fake, and it says a lot about the culture of the program.
There's also something about Long Island itself that feels right to me. Since moving to the US, it's become the closest thing I have to home. It has that rare mix of quiet, community-oriented living with the energy of the city just a train ride away. On weekends, there's no shortage of places to explore, from quiet beach towns to spots with real character. And as someone who loves food, Long Island has it all, traditional dishes and Asian food too, which makes it easy to feel settled here.
