Why Stony Brook? In my search for IM residency programs, Stony Brook stood out to me as a program that aligns with my values in patient care and education and creates a supportive environment where I could grow personally and professionally. At Stony Brook, there is diversity of background, experiences, thought, and careers, and as a result, the program fosters a community that encourages diversity and belonging. The program equally promotes education in primary care, hospital medicine, and specialty interests with the intention of ensuring all residents become a well-rounded internist; in the same vein, the program values my research background and supports my MD-PhD career goals. Program leadership is easily accessible, responsive to resident feedback, thoughtful, and kind. I also appreciate the location of the program in relation to enjoying the best of Long Island as well as its proximity to NYC, which I can enjoy in my off time!
