Why Stony Brook? Stony Brook’s emphasis on patient-centered care, meaningful mentorship and robust scholarly output are all key reasons why I felt a residency here would allow for immense growth. As a medical student here, I have first-hand experienced the seamless integration of the science and art in medicine in the way evidence-based knowledge is regularly encouraged for residents as well as used in patient care and in the way humanistic and compassionate care is both promoted and practiced by faculty. Lastly and definitely most importantly, I love the sense of family that exists within the residency program – residents, attendings and program leadership! The true friendships I saw amongst the residents and the care and support Dr. Lane provided to them all was I needed to see to know that I would be supported here for the coming 3 years!
