Why Stony Brook? I chose Stony Brook IM because it had the perfect blend of qualities I wanted in a residency program: it is close to my family, it has strong academic training, and it places an emphasis on resident wellness! On a more personal note, I chose Stony Brook because I immediately knew it was a place where I would be accepted as my truest self. I came out as transgender during residency interviews, and Stony Brook was by and far the most enthusiastic and accepting program I encountered. As a current resident here, I'm proud to say I show up to work with the same enthusiasm I had when I ranked Stony Brook at the top of my list
