June Dr. Martha Furie has been named the 2017 Robbins Distinguished Educator by the American Society for Investigational Pathology. This award is given in honor of Dr. Stanley Robbins (1915-2003), a pioneer of pathology education, and recognizes individuals whose teaching has had an impact at a regional, national, or international level.
MayDr. James Bliska has been invited to be the keynote speaker at the 5th National Yersinia Conference in Munster Germany on May 30-31, 2016.
April Dr. Patrick Hearing has been elected to chair the DNA Viruses Division of the American Society for Microbiology 2016 - 2017
March Dr. Carol Carter has received the 2016 Public Service Award from the Suffolk County Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, Inc. for her service to Suffolk County and the Long Island community.
February Dr. Laurie Krug is promoted to Associate Professor of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology
January Dr. James Konopka has been elected to fellowship in the American Academy of Microbiology.
January Dr.James Bliska has been selected to become the new Director of the Center for Infectious Diseases at Stony Brook University.
January Distinguished Professor Jorge L. Benach has stepped down as Chair of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology after almost ten years of service in this position. Professor David G. Thanassi has assumed leadership for the Department as Interim Chair.
