December Assistant Professor Brian Sheridan has been invited to give a keynote address at the 2016 annual meeting of the Center for Inflammation and Mucosal Immunology at the University of Florida Gainseville.
October Distinguished Professor Jorge Benach has been elected to honorary lifetime membership in the American Society for Rickettsiology. This distinct honor is in recognition of his many significant contributions to the field of vector-borne diseases.
September Nancy Reich Marshall, Professor of Molecular Genetics & Microbiology, will serve as the President-Elect of the International Cytokine & Interferon Society for a two-year term. The Societypromotes research and education in the cytokine and interferon fields and is composed of over 600 members. Dr. Reich Marshall will serve as Chair of the governing board of the Society, and will appoint and charge the standing committees of the Society.

February Professor Nancy Reich Marshall has received the 2015 Town of Brookhaven Women's Recognition Award in the Science Category. This award is in well-deserved recognition of her work in the Town of Brookhaven and at Stony Brook University on behalf of women in science.
February Patrick Hearing, Professor of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, has been honored by election to Fellowship in the American Academy of Microbiology. AAM Fellows are selected based on their scientific achievements and original contributions to the field of microbiology.
January Dr. Sumita Bhaduri-McIntosh of the Departments of Medicine and Molecular Genetics & Microbiology is promoted to Associate Professor
January Dr. Brian Sheridan, Ph.D. joins the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology. Dr. Sheridan's research is focused on understanding the processes that regulate the development of mucosal immunity using oral infection with the pathogen Listeria monocytogenes.
