2017 Educational Scholarship and Mentoring Grant

The Miriam and David Donoho Academy of Clinical and Educational Scholars is seeking proposals that will facilitate educational scholarship in the School of Medicine. Preference will be given to research projects related to service learning or interprofessional learning involving a health problem in the surrounding community.

Final Proposals due Monday July 3, 2017

September, 1 2017 – August 31, 2019

Proposal Requirements

Face Page. A face page must be included, indicating the title of the proposal, the name of the Principal Investigator, the contact information for the Principal Investigator (including email address, local work address and phone number), and the associated faculty members and department affiliations.

Mentoring Plan. A paragraph describing the role of a medical student or resident in the research project and a brief mentoring plan.

Research Proposal. The research proposal must be no longer than 5 pages in length and include the following: 

  • Abstract 
  • Significance 
  • Innovation 
  • Approach (with data analysis plan) 
  • Timeline (2 year maximum) 
  • Budget (allowable costs for the budget include a medical student stipend)

Selection Criteria

Evaluation of each proposal will be done by a peer review committee and will be based on the following criteria:

  • Use of service learning to solve a problem in the surrounding community 
  • Interdisciplinary team of faculty leaders 
  • Clear objectives and outcomes 
  • Significance and innovation of the proposal 
  • Feasibility and practicality of the proposal 
  • Consideration of medical student or resident involvement and mentoring plan

Notification

Information on all successful proposals will be provided by August 15th, 2017 with anticipated implementation in AY 2017-18. All submissions must be made to Doreen Olvet (Doreen.olvet@stonybrookmedicine.edu).
