Dear Department of Medicine Community,
We are pleased to announce that Anna E. Bortnick MD, PhD, MSc, FAHA, FACC, FSCAI has joined the Division of Cardiology as Professor of Medicine and Director of the Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories in the Stony Brook Heart and Vascular Institute at Stony Brook University Hospital.
Dr. Anna Bortnick earned her MD and PhD in Cardiovascular Biology at Drexel University College of Medicine where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and received the Dean’s award for Academic and Clinical Medicine. She completed Internal Medicine Residency at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, then Cardiovascular Medicine and Interventional Cardiology Fellowships at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Bortnick was formerly the Program Director of the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, earned an MSc in Clinical Research from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Yeshiva University and was the recipient of the Resnick Emerging Scholar in Aging Award.
Her research on aortic valve and mitral annular calcification has been funded by the NIH NHLBI, American Heart Association, Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Bortnick is funded for new research by the Stony Brook Research Foundation. She is a Deputy Editor of JACC:Advances, immediate past Chair of the Fellows Complex Case Summit for the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, currently serves as the Chair of the Interventional Section Leadership Council of the American College of Cardiology, is Governor-Elect for the Downstate New York Chapter of the American College of Cardiology and has twice served as the US lead for the interventional cardiology portion of the American College of Cardiology Latin America meeting.
Dr. Bortnick enjoys mentoring and is committed to innovative and equitable cardiovascular care.
