Dear Members of the DOM Community,
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Alpa Desai, M.D., as Chair of the Faculty Development Committee for the Department of Medicine.
Dr. Desai graduated from Albany Medical College, completed her internal medicine residency training at Temple University Hospital, and completed fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Mt. Sinai Hospital and Hospice and Palliative Medicine at Stony Brook University Hospital. Dr. Desai was appointed to our faculty in 2009 and promoted to Associate Professor in 2015. Dr. Desai holds several leadership positions including Director of the pulmonary outpatient practice, Director of the Care Center Network, Director of the Center for Interstitial Lung Disease, and Director of the Suffolk County Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group. She has received awards for excellence in mentoring, clinical service, and teaching. Dr. Desai has been a dedicated member of our department’s faculty development program for over a decade and has chaired our highly successful DOM annual faculty awards program since 2018.
As Chair of the Faculty Development Committee, Dr. Desai will provide committee leadership, ensuring the thoughtful development, implementation, and oversight of processes that recognize excellence and achievement across our faculty. Dr. Desai will work closely with Dr. Susan Lane, Vice Chair for Faculty Development, to align the faculty development committee activities with the department’s broader faculty development goals and priorities.
Additionally, Dr. Desai will help to ensure that the Faculty Development Committee advances ongoing faculty development activities including the annual faculty retreat, our annual faculty awards program, faculty development workshops, and faculty development opportunities.
We are grateful to Dr. Desai for taking on this important role and look forward to the contributions of Dr. Desai and the members of the faculty development committee to support and celebrate our faculty.
