Dear Department of Medicine Community:
We are excited to introduce a new faculty member in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Daniel Rausa, DO, FACP is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, specializing in general gastroenterology.
Dr. Rausa earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and his medical degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine at the New York Institute of Technology. After medical school, Dr. Rausa was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy and completed his internal medicine internship and residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia.
Following residency, he served at Navy Medical Readiness and Training Command Great Lakes in North Chicago, Illinois and practiced at the Captain James Lovell Federal Health Care Center as an internal medicine physician and Instructor of Clinical Medicine at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. In this role, he provided medical support for the U.S. Navy’s boot camp and cared for active-duty service members, their families, and veterans. He also contributed to the education and training of medical students and residents.
Dr. Rausa later became Department Head for the hospital’s military pediatrics, internal medicine, and family medicine clinics. He concluded his military service at the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After completing his military service, Dr. Rausa pursued a gastroenterology fellowship at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, where he was selected as Chief Fellow.
As a clinician and educator, Dr. Rausa is committed to delivering exceptional, patient-centered care to patients with a wide range of gastrointestinal diseases and is dedicated to teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows.
