Welcoming New Members of the Hospitalist Team

Dear Department of Medicine Community:

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce the new faculty and advanced practice providers that have joined the Hospitalist service this year.  We are excited by our continued success in retaining excellent candidates who have trained at Stony Brook in addition to recruiting experienced candidates from across the region and country. Please join us in welcoming our newest members of the hospitalist team: 

Haibin Zhang, MD

Dr. Zhang joins Stony Brook after three years as a teaching hospitalist at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, WI where he also completed his Internal Medicine Residency.  While there he helped initiate a Transition of Care Clinic for expedited post-discharge follow up visits. 

Brittany Corso, MD

Dr. Corso joins Stony Brook after three years as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia where she worked as a teaching hospitalist.  Dr Corso completed her Internal Medicine Residency with an emphasis on Medical Education at Temple University Hospital after completing internship at Drexel-Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia.

Guanqing Sun, MD

Dr. Sun joins Stony Brook after one year as a hospitalist at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, New York.  He completed Internal Medicine Residency at Montefiore Medical Center in New York prior to his recent hospitalist position.

Swera Cheema, DO

Dr. Cheema joins the hospitalist group after recently completing her Sleep Medicine Fellowship at Stony Brook Renaissance School of Medicine.  Dr Cheema previously completed Internal Medicine Residency NYU Langone Health at Mineola, New York.

Jeffrey Eric Penny MD

Dr. Penny joins the hospitalist group after recent completion of fellowship training in Geriatrics at Stony Brook Renaissance School of Medicine and before that completed Internal Medicine Residency at Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown, New York.

Olufunmilola Ajala MD, MPH

Dr. Ajala will join our nocturnist team this fall.  She recently completed her Infectious Disease Fellowship at Toledo Medical Center in Ohio and before that completed Internal Medicine Residency at Brooklyn Hospital in New York. 

Ana Maria Lopez, MD

Dr. Lopez joins the night-time hospitalist team after completing the combined Med-Peds Residency here at Stony Brook Renaissance School of Medicine.

Tyler Fox Carey, MD

Dr. Carey joins the hospitalist group after completing Internal Medicine Residency here at Stony Brook Renaissance School of Medicine.

Danielle Wolin, MD

Dr. Wolin joins the hospitalist group after completing Internal Medicine Residency here at Stony Brook Renaissance School of Medicine.

Ramnik Gill, MD, MHA

Dr. Gill joins Stony Brook after completing Internal Medicine Residency at New York Presbyterian Weill-Cornell at Brookly Methodist Hospital in New York.  Dr Gill also has completed a Masters of Healthcare Administration at University of Texas in Dallas prior to her clinical training.

Omer Al Najafi, MD

Dr. Al Najafi joins Stony Brook after completing Internal Medicine Residency at Northwell Health at Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson.

Carline Thomas, AGAC-NP, RN

Ms. Thomas joins the night-time hospitalist team after more than 8 years of clinical practice in the inpatient setting after obtaining her Masters in Adult and Acute Care from Molloy University.

Justine Schleiffelder, RN, FNP-C

Ms. Schleiffelder joins Stony Brook after six years of clinical practice including several years on inpatient hospitalist teams after obtaining her Masters in Nursing at Stony Brook Unversity.   

Hatice Kuruca APRN, FNP-BC

Ms. Kuruca joins the Stony Brook hospitalist group after completing her Masters in Nursing at Long Island University at Brentwood, New York along with 4 years of nursing experience at Stony Brook University Hospital and the Long Island State Veterans Home.

Christina Molnar, PA-C

Ms. Molnar joins the Stony Brook hospitalist group after completing her Masters training here at Stony Brook School of Health Professions.

Again, a heartfelt welcome to our new members of the Hospitalist team.
