Announcement: Andreas Kalogeropoulos, M.D., Ph.D, Named Director of Cardiovascular Research

It is my honor to announce that Andreas Kalogeropoulos, MD, MPH, PhD has been named the Director of Cardiovascular Research at the Heart Institute/Stony Brook University Hospital.

Dr. Kalogeropoulos is internationally recognized for his work in cardiovascular research and is the immediate past Chair of the Research Committee of the Heart Failure Society of America. Dr. Kalogeropoulos also serves as an Associate Program Director for the Cardiology Fellowship Program.

Dr. Kalogeropoulos obtained his medical degree and PhD from the University of Patras School of Medicine in Greece and his MPH at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. Before coming to Stony Brook, he was an Assistant Professor of Medicine in Cardiology at the Emory University School of Medicine.

Dr. Kalogeropoulos’ research focuses on the risk factors, outcomes, and clinical prediction models for patients with advanced heart failure, with the goal to optimize the management of heart failure patients. He also studies the risk factors for incident heart failure at the population level, with the goal of primary and secondary prevention of heart failure and applications of echocardiography for patients with advanced heart failure and congenital heart disease.

He has published more than 180 scientific articles, reviews texts. He is the executive editor of Heart Failure: An Essential Clinical Guide. He is the recipient of multiple awards and honors including the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health, the Echo Investigator Award from the American Society of Echocardiography, the Outstanding Scientific Citation in Clinical and Translational Science, and the Distinguished Mentor in the Department of Medicine at Emory University.

He is on the Scientific Advisory Board for the World Congress on Heart Disease and is a noteworthy reviewer for over 50 scientific journals and is an editorial board member for the Journal of Cardiac Failure, Journal of Thoracic Disease, American Heart Journal, and the Journal of Personalized Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography, American College of Cardiology, the Heart Failure Society of America and was recognized by Expertscape as a World Expert in Ventricular Dysfunction and was a recipient in 2021 of the Stony Brook University/Department of Medicine’s Clinical Research Award.
