Welcoming Dr. Lasha Gogokhia, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology

Dear Department of Medicine Community:

We are excited to introduce a new faculty member in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Lasha Gogokhia, M.D., MSc, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Associate Director of Clinical Research in the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University.

Dr. Gogokhia completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology at Weill Cornell Medicine where he trained as a T32 research fellow and also earned a master’s degree in Clinical Investigation. Dr. Gogokhia has published in high-impact journals, obtained research funding, and remains actively involved in national initiatives through the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA).

Dr. Gogokhia's clinical expertise includes inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, pouchitis, and colitis variants), immune-mediated gut diseases (immune checkpoint inhibitor–associated colitis, celiac disease), intestinal failure and malabsorption (short bowel syndrome, bile acid diarrhea), and infectious and inflammatory complications (C. difficile infection, infectious gastroenteritis, post-radiation enteritis). His research focuses on precision medicine approaches in IBD, with an emphasis on identifying biomarkers of drug response and disease activity, the role of the gut microbiome, and the impact of diet–microbiome interactions.

At Stony Brook, Dr. Gogokhia will be leading efforts to build a new IBD research program and biobank to advance precision medicine in this field.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Gogokhia to the Stony Brook community.
