Welcoming Dr. Navjot Pabla, Division of Nephrology and Hypertension

Dear Department of Medicine Community,

We are excited to introduce a new addition to the Division of Nephrology & Hypertension, Navjot Pabla, Ph.D., who joined Stony Brook as Professor of Medicine. 

Dr. Navjot Pabla

Dr. Pabla was recruited from The Ohio State University, where he served as a tenured Associate Professor in the Division of Pharmaceutics and Pharmacology and the Comprehensive Cancer Center. Trained in biotechnology and biochemistry in India, he earned his Ph.D. in Cellular Biology and Anatomy at the Medical College of Georgia and completed postdoctoral fellowships at the Medical College of Georgia, the California Institute of Technology, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. 

Dr. Pabla’s research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of acute kidney injury, drug-induced nephrotoxicity, and kidney repair, with a particular emphasis on kinase signaling, mitochondrial protection, and therapeutic strategies to prevent renal damage during cancer treatment. His highly collaborative research program has been supported by multiple NIH and American Heart Association awards, including R01 funding from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. An internationally recognized leader in kidney research, Dr. Pabla serves on NIH study sections and has authored more than 50 publications, advancing new therapeutic approaches for kidney disease and treatment-related toxicities.
