Promotion of Ahmad Alkhalil, M.D., MSc, to Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine

The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce the promotion of Ahmad Alkhalil, M.D., MSc to Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology in the Renaissance School of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Dr. Alkhalil received his medical degree from Damascus Medical School and completed a Master of Clinical Research at Case Western Reserve University. He trained in Internal Medicine at John Stroger Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, followed by Cardiovascular fellowship at Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School, Interventional Cardiology fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center, and advanced Structural Cardiology fellowship at NYU Langone Medical Center. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, Interventional Cardiology, Echocardiography, and Nuclear Cardiology. Ahmad Alkhalil, M.D., MSc

Since joining Stony Brook in 2021, Dr. Alkhalil has established himself as a leader in transcatheter structural heart disease, serving as Director of Mitral and Tricuspid Interventions at Stony Brook University Hospital and Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at the Northport VA Medical Center. His clinical practice spans TAVR, mitral and tricuspid edge-to-edge repair, and percutaneous PFO and ASD closure.

Dr. Alkhalil has been instrumental in pioneering the tricuspid intervention program at Stony Brook. He serves as Principal investigator for The Trillium study exploring the feasibility of an innovative cutting edge cross caval heterotopic tricuspid valve replacement. He additionally serves as Principal Investigator for the ALLAY-HF and ALLAY-HFrEF trials, investigating transcatheter interatrial shunt therapy for heart failure.

His academic work includes peer-reviewed publications in JACC, Circulation Cardiovascular Interventions, and the American Journal of Cardiology, moderated oral presentations at TCT, and invited faculty appearances at CRT and the New York Valve Conference. He is an active mentor to cardiology and interventional cardiology fellows and serves on both fellowship interview committees at Stony Brook. He is the recipient of the Stony Brook Life Saver Award (2025) and the William Lawson Citizenship Award (2024).

Dr. Alkhalil exemplifies the highest standards of professional excellence. His promotion is a testament to a career marked by clinical innovation, academic distinction, and an unwavering commitment to advancing structural heart care for patients across Long Island and beyond.
