The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce the promotion of Andreas P. Kalogeropoulos, M.D., M.P.H., Ph.D., FACC, FHFSA, FASE, to Research Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology in the Renaissance School of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
Dr. Kalogeropoulos is a clinical-translational and outcomes investigator in the field of heart failure and in the interface of heart failure with brain health. He serves as the Director of Cardiovascular Research at the Stony Brook Heart Institute and as Associate Program Director of the Cardiovascular Fellowship Program.
Dr. Kalogeropoulos received his medical degree and his doctorate from the University of Patras, Greece, where he also completed a residency in Internal Medicine and his clinical fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine. He subsequently completed postdoctoral research fellowships in noninvasive cardiology and heart failure at Emory University and earned a Master of Public Health in Healthcare Outcomes from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory. He joined the Emory faculty in 2010 and came to Stony Brook in 2017. 
Dr. Kalogeropoulos’ research program spans heart failure epidemiology, real-world evidence analytics, and the heart-brain axis. He has authored over 230 peer-reviewed publications with more than 8000 citations and an h-index of 48. Dr. Kalogeropoulos currently holds two American Heart Association awards. He previously held an AHA Scientist Development Grant and has served as site investigator or site principal investigator in several NHLBI HF Clinical Research Network trials.
Dr. Kalogeropoulos has served the national cardiovascular community as Chair of the Research Committee of the Heart Failure Society of America and as a member of its Scientific Statements Committee, as Panel Chair for the Department of Defense Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program, and as a reviewer for the NIH. He is an editorial board member of the American Heart Journal, the European Journal of Heart Failure, and the Journal of Cardiac Failure, a Guest Associate Editor for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and has been named a top reviewer for JAMA Cardiology for three consecutive years.
Since 2018 he has directed the Clinical Research Core Curriculum for Cardiology Fellows, and he has mentored more than forty faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, cardiology fellows, residents, and students, many of whom now hold academic appointments of their own. Dr. Kalogeropoulos was named a Distinguished Mentor at Emory in 2014 and received a Mentoring Award from the Department of Medicine at Stony Brook in 2026 by nomination of students and residents. He is the lead editor of Heart Failure: An Essential Clinical Guide (CRC Press, 2022), a co-author of ECG Companion for Beginning Experts (CRC Press, 2025), and a contributor to Heart Failure: A Companion to Braunwald's Heart Disease, which received the British Medical Association Cardiology Textbook of the Year Award in 2016. Dr. Kalogeropoulos has been recognized with the Clinical Research Award from the Department of Medicine and the William B. Lawson Citizenship Award from the Division of Cardiology.
