Promotion of Farah Monzur, MD, FACG, FASGE, to Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine

The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce the promotion of Farah Monzur, MD, FACG, FASGE, to Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine in the Renaissance School of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. 

Dr. Monzur is the Program Director for the GI Fellowship Program and the Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center. She is a board-certified gastroenterologist with an expertise in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

She completed her undergraduate and medical school training as a part of the joint 7-year Accelerated BS/MD Physician-Scientist program between Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and Albany Medical College (AMC), graduating summa cum laude. Subsequently, she went to Georgetown University Hospital for her internal medicine residency and received awards and departmental grants for her research. She then finished her gastroenterology fellowship at Stony Brook University Hospital, where she served as the chief fellow during her last year. 

As a junior faculty member, she underwent the Master Educator Fellowship, which helped her to gain skills in medical education. She was accepted into the AAMC LEAD program, a 1-year national leadership development certificate program. To further her work in medical education research, she completed the AAMC Medical Education Research Certificate (MERC) Program, a series of 8 workshops to improve the knowledge of medical education research.

She currently serves on the ACG Training Committee and ACG Public Relations Committee.  She is on the ASGE DDW Scientific Review Committee and was an ASGE LEAD member. She served as the course director for the Fellows’ Course at the Annual NYSGE Meeting, and most recently, served as the course director for the inaugural ACG Chief Fellows Course. 

Dr. Monzur was also inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology in 2022 and as a Fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in 2023, which are the highest honors presented by the respective Societies. She has lectured nationally to fellow gastroenterologists, trainees, and patients at ACG, DDW, CCF, BMANA, Gather-Ed and Monday Night IBD. Moreover, she has lectured internationally to the virtual platform INEDSYS.
