The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Sneha Shrivastava, M.D, MSEd, MSCP to Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine in the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University.
Dr. Shrivastava earned her Bachelor of Science degree from York University and her Doctor of Medicine degree from St. George's University. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Allegheny General Hospital, where she participated in the institution's Primary Care Track. Dr. Shrivastava completed her General Internal Medicine Fellowship at Northwell Health and also earned a Master of Science in Health Professions Education from Hofstra University, and is currently board certified in Internal Medicine and a Menopause Society certified provider.
Dr. Shrivastava joined the Department of Medicine in 2025 as the primary care track director and associate program director for the internal medicine residency program. She serves as a preceptor in the internal medicine resident clinic and primary care provider. Since joining, Dr. Shrivastava holds a joint faculty appointment with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology to provide menopause care.
Prior to joining Stony Brook University, Dr. Shrivatsava has served as a PCP in a Federally Qualified Health Center, Director of Women’s Health education, Associate Program Director and Resident Clinic Site Director within Northwell Health's Internal Medicine Residency Program at North Shore/LIJ.
Throughout her career, Dr. Shrivastava has demonstrated a commitment to advancing medical education, primary care and improving women's health. Her leadership has focused on strengthening resident education, clinical training, and mentorship while fostering excellence in patient-centered care. She has developed educational and clinical curricula aimed at enhancing gender-specific care for medical students, residents, and fellows. Here at Stony Brook, she has created a longitudinal primary care selective.
Her scholarly contributions include numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and presentations focused on innovative approaches to women's health education and curriculum development. She has organized and facilitated multiple regional and national workshops, contributing to advances in medical training and improving the delivery of evidence-based, gender-specific healthcare.
Dr. Shrivastava has established a strong regional and national reputation. She currently serves as the Chair of the Career Advising Program and Faculty Development Interest Group co-lead at the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) and a member of Medical Education Research Committee at Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM). Through these positions, she has championed initiatives to support physician development, sponsorship, medical education research, gender equity, and family-friendly policies within academic medicine. Within the Department of Medicine, she is a member of the faculty development committee.
Dr. Shrivastava's appointment recognizes her outstanding accomplishments as a clinician educator. Her dedication to medical education, primary care and women's health has had a significant impact on trainees, colleagues, and patients alike.
