Promotion of Lisa Strano-Paul, M.D., FACP, AGSF, to Professor of Medicine with Tenure

The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce the promotion of Lisa Strano-Paul, MD, FACP, AGSF of General Medicine and Geriatrics to Professor of Medicine with Tenure in the Renaissance School of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. 

Dr. Strano-Paul is originally from Bellport, New York and received her undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Albany graduating Summa Cum Laude and receiving the Glen Bumpus Award for Research in Biology. Dr. Strano-Paul earned her MD degree from The Jacobs School of Medine at the State University of New York at Buffalo, with Thesis Honors.  She then completed her Internal Medicine residency training at the Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia and later earned the added Qualification in Geriatric Medicine.

Dr. Strano-Paul joined Stony Brook in 1990 and is currently board certified in Internal Medicine, and Geriatrics. She is the Associate Dean for Clinical Medicine at the Renaissance School of Medicine (RSOM), where she directs the accelerated 3YMD program. She directs or co-directs several courses for RSOM students. She is the recipient of awards including the 2014 Aesculapius Award for Excellence in Medical Education, the 2019 Lenord Tow Award for Humanism in Medicine, the 2019 RSOM award for Excellence in Teaching and the 2024 Award for Excellence in Student Mentoring.

In 2017 she was granted the Best of the Human Spirit Award by the Ward Melville Heritage Organization. She serves as the chair of the Education Committee for the American Geriatric Society and in 2021 was recognized by the American Geriatric Society for Outstanding Committee Service. She is a member of the Steering Committee for the Consortium of Accelerated Medical Pathway Programs. Her academic focus has been on Professional Identity Formation, Geriatric and Competency Based Education in Undergraduate Medical Education. In 2019 the RSOM was granted the AΩA Honor Medical Society Professionalism Award in recognition of their PIF curriculum.

In addition to her practice and educational research, Dr. Strano-Paul contributes to the institution in several administrative roles. She is a senior member of the Miriam and David Donoho Academy of Clinical & Educational Scholars (ACES). She is co-chair RSOM LCME Education subcommittee, the Professional Identity Formation Working group, Clinical Course Directors Committee and annually serves as co-chair for ongoing LEARN curriculum reviews.
