Promotion of Tahmid Rahman, M.D., to Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine

The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce the promotion of Tahmid Rahman, M.D. to Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology in the Renaissance School of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Dr. Rahman received his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine. He trained in Internal Medicine at Drexel University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, followed by Cardiovascular fellowship at Stony Brook University Hospital and is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology, and Clinical Lipidology.

Tahmid Rahman, M.D.

Since joining Stony Brook in 2021, Dr. Rahman has established himself as a leader in clinical lipidology, serving as Co-Director of the Center for Advanced Lipid Management at Stony Brook University Hospital. His clinical practice spans preventive cardiology, statin intolerance, familial cholesterol disorders, and novel non-statin lipid therapies. 

Dr. Rahman has been very active with research and serves as principal investigator for VICTORIAN-2-PREVENT, ACCLAIM-LPa, and DAL-Gene-2 trials investigating novel therapies such as inclisiran and cardiovascular outcomes, lepodisiran for treating lipoprotein (a), and dalcetrepib in post-MI patients. He has peer-reviewed publications in JACC, Frontiers Cardiovascular Medicine, and American Journal of Cardiology. 

He is an active mentor to medical students, internal medicine residents, and cardiology fellows and provides clerkship lectures to the medical students and serves as advisor to the cardiology interest group.

Dr. Rahman is also the recipient of several noteworthy accolades, including:
·      Stony Brook Faculty Cardiology Teacher and Mentor of the Year (2025, 2024, 2022)
·      Stony Brook Faculty Cardiology Outpatient Attending Teacher of the Year (2026, 2025)
·      The Department of Medicine Dedicated Educator Award (2024)
·      The William Lawson Citizenship Award (2023)

Dr. Rahman exemplifies the highest standards of professional excellence. His promotion is a testament to a career marked by clinical innovation, academic distinction, and an unwavering commitment to education and advancing preventive cardiovascular care for patients across Long Island and beyond.
