Change in Residency Scholarship Oversight Program APD Role

Dear DOM Members,

We write to inform you that Dr. Getu Teressa will be stepping away from his role as the Associate Program Director of Scholarship Oversight Program. He will continue to serve as the Internal Medicine Clerkship Director for medical students and as a teaching hospitalist for the general medicine floors. In his place, Dr. Imran Chaudhri, Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, has graciously agreed to assume the role as the Scholarship Oversight APD.

Dr. Teressa founded the Residency Scholarship Oversight Program in 2015, laying the groundwork for our robust research curriculum. Over the past 10 years, he has developed the cornerstone “Introduction to Research” and“EBM” Academic Wednesday workshops, authored the comprehensive Resident Research Handbook, and has mentored countless residents in achieving their scholarly goals. As a result of this program, resident research productivity has increased by 1.5 times and annually, over 60% of our residents contribute to projects that result in regional/national meetings presentations or publications.

Dr. Chaudhri brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to this new role.  He earned his B.S. at Union College, M.B.A. from Union Graduate College/Clarkson University and M.D from Albany Medical Center. He completed his Internal Medicine residency training at Stony Brook from 2018-2021 and was a Chief Resident from 2021-2022. He joined the Stony Brook faculty in 2024 following his Nephrology Fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center where he also completed a medical education fellowship. His research interests include how genetics play a role in the development of chronic kidney disease and studying the implementation of new curricula for renal fellows and medical residents.

Please join us in expressing our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Teressa for his extraordinary contributions and in welcoming Dr. Chaudhri to his new leadership role. We are confident that he will continue to elevate the Resident Scholarship Oversight Program and further our mission to support and inspire resident research.
