Welcoming Dr. Stephanie Teachout, Section of Palliative Medicine, Division of Hematology Oncology

Dear Department of Medicine Community:

We are excited to introduce a new faculty member in the Section of Palliative Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology. Stephanie Teachout, MBBS, is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University.

Dr. Stephanie Teachout is a board-certified Palliative Care physician with a strong focus on symptom management and whole-person care. She joined Stony Brook Medicine in July 2025 as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Medicine.

Dr. Teachout earned her medical degree from the University of Queensland in Australia, completed her Internal Medicine residency at SUNY Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, NY, and pursued fellowship training in Palliative Care at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.

She is deeply committed to supporting patients with complex, serious illnesses at all stages and prioritizing honest, compassionate communication with patients and their families. Dr. Teachout also has a particular interest in medical education, especially in teaching end-of-life communication and mentoring students, residents, and fellows as they develop their skills in delivering empathetic, patient-centered care.
