Dear Department of Medicine Community:
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Vivek Kesar has joined Stony Brook University Hospital as Assistant Professor of Medicine and Chief of Endoscopy in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Dr. Kesar earned his medical degree from the prestigous Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, where he received the program’s Excellence in Research Award. He then completed his Gastroenterology Fellowship at Stony Brook University Hospital, followed by a Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship at Yale New Haven Hospital. 
After fellowship, Dr. Kesar was recruited to the University of Massachusetts–Baystate Medical Center as Interventional Endoscopy Faculty. He then joined Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he served in impactful leadership roles, including Director of Endoscopy and Program Director of the Interventional Endoscopy Fellowship, helping build and lead a growing advanced endoscopy program.
Dr. Kesar is an active clinical scholar with numerous publications, and his work has earned several recognitions and awards. His clinical expertise includes complex ERCP, EUS-guided interventions, advanced pancreaticobiliary endoscopy, and innovative minimally invasive therapies for bariatric and postsurgical anatomy.
Dr. Kesar returns to Stony Brook with a clear vision: to expand access to advanced interventional endoscopy and continue growing Stony Brook’s reputation as a regional resource for complex endoscopic care.
