Ed Weissman, MD, FACP is Associate Professor of Medicine at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook, Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program, and Site Director at the Northport VAMC. Dr. Weissman received his B.S. from Yale College, his M.D. from the SUNY Stony Brook, and completed his Internal Medicine Residency and General Internal Medicine Fellowship at Stony Brook University Medical Center.
Dr. Weissman is board certified in Internal Medicine and has the Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatrics. He has been practicing general internal medicine and geriatrics since 1989, first spending 4 years full-time at Stony Brook before assuming his positions at the VAMC.
Dr. Weissman’s interests include medical education in the inpatient and outpatient setting, medical consultation, admission/discharge processes, transitions of care, and clinical and diagnostic reasoning. Dr. Weissman oversees all inpatient activities in his role as Inpatient Medical Director, and also maintains a busy clinic where he serves as Attending Preceptor in the Resident Clinic. He leads Resident Morning Report at the VA as well as Interdisciplinary Team Rounds on the inpatient service.
Dr. Weissman has won numerous teaching awards including the Aesculapius Award for Excellence in Medical Education, Attending Teacher of the Year (Inpatient and Outpatient), and Department of Medicine Teacher Educator Awards. His overarching passion is to ensure that his students, residents, and fellows are imbued with comprehensive general internal medicine training with an emphasis on the general, so that they learn to provide total care to their patients.
