We are one of the participating institutions in the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) sponsored by the American Association of Medical Colleges. In order to maintain equality and to best evaluate each individual applicant, all communications are facilitated through ERAS.  As per the APGO Right Resident, Right Program, Ready Day One Program recommendations, our final application deadline is October1st. Invitations to interview will be sent on October 25th, in accordance with ACOG/CREOG recommended standards. All applicants will be notified of their application status by December 2, 2022.

The application process should be initiated by the applicant.  All letters of recommendation are to be sent to your Dean’s Office and they will be responsible for uploading them to ERAS. Letters of recommendation should not be mailed directly to us. We require three (3) letters, one of which should be a Chair's letter, whenever possible.  A Standard Letter of Evaluation (SLOE) form may be substituted for one of the three required letters.  We require an official transcript of your Step 1 and Step 2 USMLE Board scores to be uploaded with your ERAS Application.  The request for an official transcript can be done through your Dean’s Office.  After review of your completed application, we will offer a select pool of applicants interviews at Stony Brook via the ERAS Scheduling System.

While we welcome resident applicants from foreign medical schools, we are a competitive program, and we have a preference for American medical school graduates who are receiving a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree.

The minimum requirements for application are listed on the Stony Brook Medicine University Hospital's Graduate Medical Education Minimum Application Requirements page.

Copies of the resident contract/employment agreement and salary information can be found on the Office of GME's Prospective Residents & Fellows web page.  Please review this information before ranking us in the Match, if you are an applicant.  This information will also be provided directly to candidates who are selected to interview.

In addition, if you would like to view some of the policies of the Medical Center regarding duty hours, moonlighting, resident supervision, etc., these may be viewed on the Graduate Medical Education Policies page.
