After obtaining his MD from the SBU School of Medicine, Dr. Honkanen completed residency training in ophthalmology at Yale University and a fellowship in glaucoma at the University of Iowa. Board certified in ophthalmology, Dr. Honkanen has been recognized for his exemplary service to patients and clinical excellence. In addition, he maintains an active program of research. Dr. Honkanen is currently collaborating with Dr. Rigas on new treatments for dry eye disease, which affects millions of older Americans, using novel compounds.
