December Dr. Laurie T. Krug was named the first Stony Brook University Discovery Prize Fellow for her “high-risk, high-reward” basic research project to explore the use of nanoparticles as vehicles to deliver molecular scissors to the site of virus infection.
December Dr. Adrianus van der Velden is promoted to Associate Professor of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology
September Adjunct Professor Juan Carlos Garcia-Monco is the editor of a new book, CNS Infections (Springer, June 014). Professor Maurizio Del Poeta is the senior author on the chapter "Fungal Infections of the CNS".
July Professor Patrick Hearing has been selected to serve a four-year term on the Recombinant DNA Advisory Committee of the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Hearing will bring his expertise in the design of viral vectors for human gene therapy to the RAC.
April Professor Eckard Wimmer is the recipient of the 2014 Loeffler-Frosch Medal. This award is named for the pioneering virologists who discovered the causative agent of foot-and-mouth disease, Friedrch Loeffler and Paul Frosch, and has been given to Dr. Wimmer by the German Society for Virology in recognition of his distinguished career in the field of virology.
