Radiology Informatics

The Radiology Department at University Hospital Stony Brook was upgraded to provide digital imaging and to meet the growing demands of a digital radiology department. The department is equipped with the most complex and up-to-date equipment developed today.

The Hospital uses Fuji Computed Radiography (CR), Fuji CR Scoliosis Films, and has recently adapted mammography CR acquisition. There are a variety of other scanning modalities including a 4, 16and 64multi-slice G.E. Cat Scans, a 1.5 Tessler Philips MRI and 3.0 Tessler, an Integrated Special Procedure and multi-slice Siemens Cat Scan, and newly installed state-of-the-art Acuson Ultrasound units. In the interim of purchasing a PET/CT in the near future, we are using Mobile PET.

Staff members of the Radiology Department Informatics Division specialize in various areas of radiology, namely, dictation systems, biomedical engineering, field service engineering, Windows application hardware engineering, Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS), and Radiology Information Service (RIS) System.

The most significant accomplishment achieved by the Radiology Informatics Division thus far has been to establish the Voice Recognition System. 98% of the Radiology staff utilize the Voice Recognition System. Radiology Informatics is excited to currently be researching workflow in the digital realm, one of our most extensive projects.

Both Radiology Informatics and University Hospital are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week, 365-days a year. The goal is to maintain all systems that are running at a minimum and at 99.95%.
