General Surgery Residency Operative Experience

Each resident can reasonably expect to be actively involved and appropriately supervised at all times by a member of the surgical faculty to meet the American Board of Surgery operative experience requirements. Residents maintain an up-to-date record of their own operative experience on the ACGME case log system and monitored by the Department of Surgery education team. Cases are tabulated and kept as part of their permanent academic record to assure ABS requirements are fulfilled. The table below summarizes the average operative experience of the Class of 2024 graduating surgical chief residents by ACGME defined categories (minimums).
