Dr. Gemmill is Program Director of the Hematology/Medical Oncology Fellowship Program, and Assistant Professor of Medicine.

“I am a Long Island native and earned my undergraduate degree in Political Science and minor in Chemistry from New York University.  After college, I left Long Island to train in clinical research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland.  I later moved back to attend medical school at New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine where I also completed the Academic Medicine Scholars Program.  I went on to complete my Internal Medicine Residency and Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Training at Stony Brook Medicine, and served as Chief Resident and Chief Fellow, respectively.  Upon graduating, I joined the Hematology/Oncology Faculty and was appointed Associate Director of the Fellowship Program.  My clinical practice and research interests encompass all of colorectal and gastrointestinal malignancies including esophageal, gastric, hepatobiliary, and pancreatic cancers.  As Program Director, I am committed to creating a positive learning environment that fosters scientific inquiry and team work while providing outstanding education and training for the next generation of hematologists and medical oncologists.”

About Dr. Lee:

Dr. Lee is Associate Program Director of the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program, and Assistant Professor of Medicine. 

I'm originally from the Bay Area in California. I received my medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and moved to New York City where I completed Internal Medicine residency training at New York University and Hematology & Medical Oncology fellowship at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine. I then joined the Lymphoma Service faculty at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center before moving to Stony Brook University in 2022. My clinical and research focus is on lymphoma. As the Associate Program Director of the fellowship program, my goal is to promote an effective learning environment for our trainees to become exceptional hematologists and oncologists, with an emphasis on patient care, education, research, and wellness.
