Experience: Fellowship at Stony Brook allowed for exposure to diverse pathology in all aspects of Hematology and Oncology. The faculty is very knowledgeable. There is also an excellent experience at the VA where fellows have a lot of autonomy in the outpatient setting. Lastly, life is never boring as Stony Brook is in an area of long island near a lot of beaches, trails, vineyards, and a short train ride away from NYC.

Experience: Had an amazing experience at Stony Brook for the last three years. With clinical rotations at the main university hospital and VA Northport, the fellowship offers excellent training and clinical exposure to a wide variety of pathology along with many research opportunities. Faculty is very knowledgeable with many years of experience and well known in their specialty of interest. Also a big perk is living close to New York City so weekends are never boring.

Experience: I stayed after my residency at Stony Brook for fellowship because I knew I would be seeing diverse pathologies with access to state of the art medicine. Our program was unique in that not only did we spend our time at the University Hospital but we also had our continuity clinic at the VA. As a third year fellow I had autonomy to manage my own patient panel but the best part was working with the veteran population. It was extremely rewarding to make a difference in their lives.

After Fellowship - Community hematology/oncology practice in Connecticut
Experience - I really enjoyed my fellowship at Stony Brook. Being that it is a large academic center, there was such a wide range of diseases - benign and malignant, that we as fellows were able to learn from. We also had great exposure to numerous clinical trials and research that allowed us to stay on top of the most up to date cancer therapies. Additionally, we had the opportunity to work at the nearby VA hospital, which allowed us to treat and take ownership of our patients, giving us great experience in treating cancers commonly seen in the community setting. The teaching is terrific, and it is clear that the attendings care about the training and education of the fellows. I can confidently say that by the end of fellowship, I felt fully prepared to practice as an attending hematologist/oncologist.

Experience: My fellowship training at Stony Brook provided me with a diverse and comprehensive education in benign and malignant hematology and medical oncology. Stony Brook also provides a unique opportunity to learn on a transplant service, while the VA focuses on autonomy and develops confidence in taking care of complex cases.
