Please join us on March 6, from 8 am until 1 pm, for the 18th annual Women in Medicine & Science (WIMS) Research Day. The event, organized by the Office of Faculty Affairs at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, was created to raise awareness of the issues that women continue to face in medical training, healthcare, science and research, and to highlight the achievements of women in those fields. This day also offers opportunities for community building, networking, mentoring and collaboration. The current climate supporting various women’s movements has made Women in Medicine & Science even more relevant and necessary for Stony Brook’s female community.

This year's invited speaker is Dianna M. Milewicz, MD, PhD, the President George H.W. Bush Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine, Director of the Division of Medical Genetics and Vice-Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) McGovern Medical School. Dr. Milewicz will give a talk entitled "Genetic Basis of Vascular Diseases: Mechanistic Insights from Patients." Additionally, Dr. Milewicz will participate in a group panel to discuss "The Sense of 'Belonging' in Women in Medicine & Science." The event will also host talks from the finalists who submitted abstracts that celebrate research, new discoveries and achievements in medicine and science, as well as a poster session in which you get to vote on the best ones. Please see below for the complete program agenda, and we hope to see you on March 6.
