STAR Card
Two STAR Card recipients were nominated by Brianne Saladino, RN Dr. Adam Bindelglass, thank you so much for your quick response for our critical care patient Thursday night. Your skills and compassion to the situation did not go unnoticed and we are lucky to have you as part of our team. Thank you for all you do and always being so kind to the nurses as well. Dr. Bahaa Daoud, you were once again amazing in a critical care scenario. You are calm and compassionate under pressure, and I am so glad you were by our side in both terrible situations. Your critical care thinking and compassion for the patient and the calm you exude to the staff should be modeled by all. You are such a role model and asset to your team. Thank you for all you do. I know our patients are always in the most capable hands when you are here. A STAR Card recipient was nominated by Danielle Mohr, RN Dr. Morgane Factor, thank you for taking such good care of the L&D patients. You always advocate for the patients and truly care about them. |

Women in Anesthesia Journal Club
Ashley Wang, MD The Women in Anesthesia (WIA) Journal Club was another success, hosted once again by Dr. Tazeen Beg at her home in May. Our members discussed gender distribution in US residency program directors as well as gender equity in academic departmental leadership. Many faculty members opened up about their experience navigating their careers early on to balance responsibilities at work and with family, while our senior residents shared stories on how they seek out job opportunities and negotiate contracts as new female graduates entering the workforce. We appreciate the insight and perspectives from everyone, and already look forward to the next meeting in the summer! |
SARAS
Srinivas Pentyala, PhD The 20th Annual “Science And Research Awareness Series” (SARAS) will be held July (8-26). In this program, students learn about innovative technologies and novel findings in the field of biomedical research. SARAS started in 2004 with 21 students and 1 faculty. Interest in the program grew rapidly and now 130 students (our max capacity) from all over the country attend this 3-week program at our medical center. This year, more than 70 experts from clinical sciences, basic sciences, translational sciences, administration, law and business have volunteered to educate, excite and inspire the students. Please check out the program details by going to SARAS website. If you find any of the topics interesting (or never had a clue of what these topics and clinical or research areas are), you are more than welcome to attend the program that runs in Lecture Hall 3, Level 2, and in Med students Lab -161 on 2nd Floor of HSC. This is “our” program being organized by “our department”, so drop by during the program and see what goes on in SARAS. Thanks for all your support in making this program one of the most sought-after summer programs in Biomedical Sciences. Clinical Skills Workshop in SARAS (July 22, 2024) One component of the SARAS program is the “Clinical Skills’ workshop which takes place on July 22 (Monday) from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM in our Skills Center. Every year, a few of our colleagues volunteer their time to run this workshop. Still, we need experts to interact with SARAS students in this workshop. If any one of you (Faculty/Residents/Nursing and Nurse Anesthetist Staff) are interested (and are free on July 22nd afternoon), please help us run this workshop. You will become an instant “ROCK STAR” and “ROLE MODEL” for these enthusiastic kids. If you are interested, please let us know. |
