Samuel DeMaria, Jr., MD was the Keynote Speaker. He is a Professor of Anesthesiology and Otolaryngology, and Vice Chairman for Research in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine in the Mount Sinai Health System. His topic, "Incivility and Patient Safety" took a behavioral psychological view of interactions among medical professionals. It was filled with humorous anecdotes as well as hard data. ![]() The basic science judges were Mary Kritzer, PhD (Neurobiology and Behavior) and Markus Riessland, PhD (Neurobiology and Behavior)) and the clinical research judges were Aaron Sasson, MD (Surgery) and On Chen, MD (Medicine). They were tasked with identifying three "bests". This year, they found only two ... because Medical Student Giancarlo Sabetta walked away with both the "Best Clinical Science Abstract" and "Best Trainee Abstract" awards. He presented two of the moderated posters: "Characterizing Baseline Membrane Lung Resistance in ECMO", and "Diagnostic Performance of Pressure Gradients in Assessing Membrane Health During ECMO". The "Best Basic Science Abstract" award went to Kai Bou, a Master's Student in the Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology. He spoke on "Novel Fatty Acid Binding Protein 5 Inhibitor ART26.12 as an Analgesic for Osteoarthritic Pain". ![]()
